Day 9: Art of Board Games (Kenna)

Image
Today, we spent the first hour of our day doing the finishing touches to our made-up board games. This included anything else in the game that needed to be completed, and doing test runs to ensure that the game worked well for the players. Then, for the remainder of the morning, we all spent time playing each other's board games. In the afternoon, Michelle's mom came as a visitor and taught everyone how to play Mahjong and gave useful tips and insight on the game. We all had a lot of fun presenting our games to one another and learning a new game to play.

Day 8 - Board Game M-term (Kat B)

During day 8  we worked on our board games for the first 45 minutes of the day and then I led the group in a group game called Mystery at Magnolia Gardens, where we were the detectives and had to solve who tried to murder Florence. The game gives you clues and you need to piece it together and use the items given in the box to find who did it and why. The game was difficult and players eventually couldn't find out who did it.I personally believe the game didn’t exactly work out because there was a lack of teamwork, and a lot of the members of the group didn't want to work together and or wouldn't help with gathering clues, which made the game a lot harder, considering the game is built on teamwork. Later, after the game, we watched Clue: The Movie, which was fun. People enjoyed the movie and didn't see the plot twist coming, which made it fun to watch. The movie is one of my personal favorites so it was fun to see the others' reactions to the movie. The one thing I ...

Day #6 k.k

Today, we played various board games in the morning before lunch. Then, in the afternoon, we took a bus to the Teahouse, a chain restaurant known for its milk tea with boba and board games at every location. As a group we played scopa, war, & other card games students had brought from home. Overall, we had a fun day full of strategy, luck, & boba. -Kat Kuntz

Day 4 - Board Game M-term (Daniel)

To start off day four of our M term, Mr Roddy came in and taught us how to play “Murder” which is very similar to the game “sorry”. “Murder” is not sold in stores but many people create their own boards from wood. After a couple rounds of “Murder”, we took a break and had lunch. After lunch, we took turns presenting our presentations on the board games we chose the first day (clue, risk, chess, monopoly, etc.) We discussed the history of the games, different strategies and we people play the game today. It was very interesting to learn about and play “Murder” because it was very unique, being a game with the rules passed down and people having to create their own “murder” boards. This made me understand that board games are much more than just entertainment. Board games are a way of connecting with people and building strong relationships.

Day 5 - Michelle

So today I taught people to play a game me and my family play called "Poop head" It was very silly and I enjoyed teaching and playing with everyone as it was very intense. Mr. Zhou had lost the game. Afterwards, the costal group game and I played chess with Baker while others played game of life or others. Later on we all decided to play black jack and then watch Jumanji. It was a very fun day.

Day 3- Board Games M-Term (Michelle & Daniel)

On day 3, the creator of Overcoffee came to speak with us. We played with the game and had a lot of fun. I loved being able to share with no judgment and I really think I will be playing this game more. She inspired a lot of us because she really listened to herself to create this game and I think the information she told us would help us create our own games.

Board games M-Term Day 2 (Tuesday) - Michelle

On the first week, Tuesday, Dr. Q came in and taught us all about game theory, more specifically the Nash equilibrium and the prisoner’s dilemma. Personally, I knew a little bit about game theory but Dr. Q’s presentation taught me a lot more and it was fun. We got to play a couple games involving the game theory and Emma had won against everyone, it was pretty cool to discuss trust and how to take advantage of the other player. After that we played individual games in groups such as risk, uno, chess, and a couple of other things. After lunch we got to watch “A Beautiful Mind” which is a movie all about John Nash who created the game theory. It was a sad movie but very interesting we had a great time learning about it. For the rest of the day we played some games and discussed the movie.

Today was the first day so we started by going over what we were going to be doing over the course of M-Term and our scheduled outings. after we did that, we got into 2 groups and played some board games such as Life, Uno, Clue, and Chess.         After that, we had lunch for about an hour, and when we came back, we started to work on our presentations about different games. We had to make a short presentation about what the game was, where it came from, how to play and anything that we thought was interesting about the game. We had planned to present them that day but decided to present them on Wednesday instead and played a group game called Mafia, which is a game with three roles, murder, healer, and detective.      Today was a fun start to our M-Term. We played some board games and worked on presentations about different games. I’m excited to share the presentations on Wednesday and learn more about what we will be do...
